PROBLEM
Breast, Lung, Melanoma, Kidney, and Colorectal Cancers have the majority of all Brain Metastasis (BM). Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) blocking access to drugs are the main problem in treatments.
SOLUTION
The development of new biologic drugs, such as recombinant proteins or gene therapies, as well as non-cancer brain therapeutics, needs a natural cancer drug delivery system able to cross the BBB. Biologics are large-molecule therapeutics that do not cross the BBB. BBB drug delivery is the limiting factor in the future development of new therapeutics for the brain. The delivery of recombinant protein or gene medicines requires the brain drug developer to re-engineer the biologic with BBB drug delivery technology. The presence of BBB delivery technology allows for engineering the therapeutic to enable entry into the brain across the BBB from the blood. CSF injection of the drug is the most widely practiced approach to brain delivery. However, drug injections into the CSF result in limited drug penetration to the brain parenchyma. Given the profound effect of the BBB on brain drug development, future brain drug and gene development will be accelerated by advances in BBB delivery technology, in parallel with new Breakthrough Biologics developments.
Our focus will be developing a Mesenchymal Stem Cell Derived Exosomes as a Cancer Delivery System able to penetrate the BBB as well as the Blood Tumor Barrier (BTB). The focus will initially be on Breast Cancer Biotherapeutics Exosomes Cancer Delivery System. This will include other cancers in the future.
